Using BRT on Alignments on a stretched 'Snake Grid'

Dear Forum,

can i ask BRT to treat a 1m stretch of alignment as something else....? say 1.1m instead? i work with a lot of alignments in SnakeGrid which is a converted grid for real world stretch and curvature. the issue is that the graphics can be stretched so that a graphical Master Chainage still reads correct but the distance between 10000m and 11000m isnt now 1000m.... its 1001m [as an example].

i have Projects that gain 8m over a 10km stretch. while not a lot, its significant to my work.

i wondered can BRT be set to treat that 1000m mentioned above as 1001m thus incorporating the Chainage stretch?

  • Just to be sure to well understand what you explain. You've already stretched the alignments using a transform command. Therefore the chainage annotated using BRT is now for example 10001. But you would like to see 10000 even the distance is now 10001.
    Is it correct ?
As far as I know there are 2 things we can do on alignments:
1- Transform the alignments: you can apply a scale or other transformation, but the chainage will still be a true cumulative distance from the begining of the alignment.
2- You can set a grid factor in Project Defaults that will affect all plan annotations and stationing. It means that the graphic doesn't change. If you superimpose the alignment it is the same, but the value annotated are different. Example with a grid factor=1.1: a straight L=151.64 will be annotated as 137.85 (151.64/1.1). The length of the graphic is 151.64. A 700 radius will be 636.36. The distance between station 1000 and 1020 is 22 not 20

the bit stating the annotated chainge is now 10001 is correct. id now like BRT and the ALG to read that 10001 as 10000, as it was originally before the stretch.

this would allow me to work with the stretched Project and have no chainage slip when placing items along an alignment using the ALG
