Length of Transition Curve

you can use the "Design Calc" button when placing the radius or when editing the alignment. It allows you calculate the radius or the length or the cant or the speed from a defined parameter. You can calculate the radius, then the length and all value are sent back to the previous dialog.

What is the type of transition you are using as the formula would change according to the type of transition been used. For example in India we use cubic parabola as transition type and length is calculated by three formulae :-

1. TL = 0.008*Ca*Vm
2. TL = 0.008*Cd*Vm
3. TL= 0.72*Ca

where Ca = Actual Cant, Vm = Maximum Speed & Cd = Cant Deficiency
The maximum of the three values is rounded off to the nearest factor of 5 and used.

Ca = G*V*V/(127*R), where G is the gauge distance and R is the radius

But if the transition is clothoid then the formula changes.
