Sectionizing alignment file

Hi all,

I'm looking for a method of dividing my horizontal alignment(s) into different sections, based on stationing, for drawing and data extracting purposes.

I.e. from station 0+100 - 0+300 existing tracks are being adjusted, so i can assign a specific style in this section. From station 0+300 - 0+500 new tracks are being laid, which would give this section a different style accordingly.

I'm sure there are many aspects of rail design, where something like this could be useful.

I've been fiddling around with the "Light Rail Manufacturing" application add-in, which allows the user to insert joints, and within these assign a specific rail profile. It's something like this I'm looking for, but with a better annotation function to be shown in a plan drawing.

Suggestions are welcome!

  • Hi
    Just a supportive comment

I have long had the same wishes as those you ask for.
Some years ago, I asked Bentley (Nordic Civil in Denmark) to incorporate a table in which you can specify which style you want for each section. It is of course important, that the division should be done in a way where the rest of the program continues to perceive the alignment as one.
As far as I can see, the functionality is still not incorporated:-(
  • I don't know exactly everything you want to get from these sections. One way I used to do something I guess close from this is to use Roadway Designer to set my sections to create features along the alignment (or above) at a defined level if required on profile.
So the roadway designer is a repository of the sections I can change at any time and it provides features I can display and annotate using feature style.
I don't know if it can be used in your case.
