3D Poly Line Creation - wrong level result

Can someone help me with my questions regarding "creating 3D Poly line: ?

I have created 3 (three) alignments, all have and are in H and V design.

And I make them active (each at any time) by "Set Active" command.

Then I make them 3D Polyline by commands : geometry --> Vie Geometry --> 3D - alignment, and then APPLY.

I do this one by one for these three line (H Design)

When I see them in Dynamic view (3D View) on screen, all of these three lines are FLOATING at correct Elev.,and look OK, which mean all Three Line now in 3D positions.

When I save the drawing/result in CAD (dwg file) and open it in AutoCAD, it surprises me :

- only ONE line now become 3D Polyline (or to be precise SPline) and every points has correct Level

- the other two are still POLYLINE  (and Flat) and with ODD / WRONG Elevation - 1448.xxxxxx m (Elevation MINUS)

Re-try and re-do, but the results are still the same, the 2nd and 3rd line are always as Polyline in ODD elevation (Minus elevation).

Any one able to help please.

Thanks you.

regards

Susanto

  • Can you attach the .dgn file or can you check the elevation in the dgn file. Is -1448.*** to?
I guess you have problem with Geometry>Utilities>Assign Elevation. Try to apply whit "From Geometry"
Check your Project Options is there some preference that have Plotting Height -1448.***

  • Gents,

Finally I found the reason why my 3D polyline level going to random number such as -1441m (minus figure).

The reason is I only have ONE simple polyline, one level at start and one level at the end.
The software , Bentley Power Rail (I believe) cannot make 3D polyline or Spline from such simple polyline like this.
Using command Geometry à View Geometry à 3D alignment to create 3D polyline, the result : this software pick any random number for the levels and the result is still polyline not 3D or Spline.

So, I did the trick, for a simple straight polyline, I inserted Vertical PI which the effect is negligible (very minor) to the whole vertical design.
The software recognize this PVI and then create accurate Spline (3D line).

I don’t know if someone has better option for this problem.

  • I never faced such issue.
What is the version you are using (Rail Track/AutoCAD) ?
When you create 3D alignments you should get complex chain / line string in your rail track drawing.
Then exporting the DGN to DWG should convert the complex chain / line string to 3D polylines.
You should have a look at the options when exporting to DWG. Check the entity mapping
Also are you using a special line type to display 3D alignment ?

As Aleksandar said, the DGN could help
