Turnout placed in a curve

Turnout placed in a curve changes the length of circular curve element of the turnout.

This is inaccuracy in the elements. Sometimes appears parasite elements.

I think this should be revised!

Anyone else ?

  • It is not good idea to have turnouts in the curves, since normaly it doesnt work properly, However I guess, there are some raltion between the curves in divergent track and main track , it is not possible to have any desigred radius, there are some restriction which limit us, fx. the length of the switches and closure rails are fixed,
  • I am not sure to well understand the question. When the turnout is in a curve you have option in the turnout definition to keep the length on inner rail or outer rail and also the bending method (default or German). It can change the resulting geometry.

  • Hi, jpln!
I must use the default method of bending. I found information:

    www.bentleyuser.se/.../Power_Rail_Track_Workshop.pdf

I guess this problem is not solved since the presentation is uploaded.

  • The software is working correctly, based upon either the Swiss or German bending rules!
If a turnout is placed in a circular arc then the branch element lengths and radii will change. The lengths will either be shorter (i.e. the turnout is placed to the inside of the circular arc) or be longer (i.e. placed on the outside). This is done inorder to maintain the cross angle.
But again read the .pdf that was mentioned.
Also, in my opinion, if a turnout is placed into a circular arc then most likely either the designer or the contractor will need to do detailed design of the turnout.

To main the mainline length or lead length along a turn out placed in similar or contra flexure, the software bends the elements using swiss or german methods. This I understand. My issue is that we cannot tell the software (in the connection editor or create connection tools) to maintain the main line length about either the inside or outside rail.

In a Right Handed Turnout on a Right Handed Curve (similarflexure), the lead length between the toe (.1) and Nose (IP+16N) should be maintained if the design is to be correct, this means that the turnouts mainline length should be held on the outer rail.

However a Left Hand Turnout on the same Right Hand curve has the lead to be maintained along the inside rail.

Is there a way in the current release to edit this preference in the turnout connection editor window, as this is particular relevant for crossover design in curves. As it stands, I have to create two different turnout definitions for each type of turnout, one with the "maintain length inner rail" and one with the "maintain length along outer rail"
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks
