Rotating feature points from Roadway Designer

Hi!

I was wondering whether it is possible to rotate the feature points generated from a template through Roadway Designer according to the alignement/corridor it is generated from (BRT).

So far, the feature point is rotated according to top view (or not rotated). I need it in order to be able to replace the feature point with a 3D cell, so that cell is rotated properly, in my case some platform elements, consoles and foundation..

Alternativly, is it possible to use modelled cells when creating a template?

Thanks.

  • As I understand you want to place cells at feature points while controlling the rotation of the cell using the bearing of the alignment at that location. I assume you are looking for automatic placement. I don't see a way of doing this as described. But you can place a cell along a path at a given interval. The cell can rotate to follow the path. This a standard feature of MicroStation.

  • Hi EBlach,

Not knowing exactly what sort of Feature points / Cells you need to place, I'd like ot give you some general answers, you may be able to use:

    - If you want to place a (2D-)cell to cross-sections, you may try using "Place Cell/block" function. If an alignment has a Cant-calculation, the cell will be placed correctly according to the Cant. (see the attached example with "Place cell" of sleepers).

    - if you need a continous 3D construction (e.g. rail-head, platform elements, etc.) in the model you need to define the elemets in the templates and run the roadway modeler to achieve this. The metode can not be used with discontinous elemets like the platform consoles or sleepers etc.)

  • Thanks for replying to my question,

I'm looking for an automated method of placing 3D cells in a 3D model i.e. according to an alignment.

I've created the platform edges as a template and run it with an interval of 3 m in Roadway Designer (the elements should be 3 m wide) according to a vertical and horizontal alignment, representing the front of the platform edge.

In the template I've placed a point with a constrained point with a surface feature style, that should display the point as a cell. The problem is, that the cell (point) isn't rotated according to the alignment.

I'm not sure Roadway Designer is even able to control point rotation...

Hope that helped to clarify the question.

  • Ok, I don't know a function in BRT could do what you need, which can be a bit tricky, if the alignment is on a curve or a transition curve. Maybe JPLN could guide you more with the solution he suggested in MicroStation ?!

  • Here is the way to place the cell. Of course this must be done at the very last stage because, even fast, it is manual. If you change the feature you have to do it again.

    1. Place the cell using Accudraw to rotate and offset from the feature (3d alignment or any 3D feature you want to use)
    2. Use the array tool, Along path, distance, rotate element to place the cells along the path
