I am dumbfounded that there is no way to renumber or rename points in batch. This should be a fundamental capability for any database. I am wondering if it can be done by creating a seperate GPK file and merging the points in. What would happen if there are conflicts when merging GPK files?
-The way you are doing it is the only way. You already know this (and probably everyone else reading this) but I will describe the procedure for others in case they wonder what are we talking about: An easy way to display the components on the dgn is via Navigator, for example if you want to draw all the curves, set the element option to Curve, press "Select All" and then press the "Visualize Element" button (Paint brush). (same way for lines and points). I will put and enhancement request for what you are asking for.
-There is no option in cogo for renaming a set of points at once. One by one is the only option for now. I think I remember seeing a Navigator enhancement request for that, I will revisit that to check the status
Thanks for clarifying Fernando. Is there an easy way to display the components of the chain so I can pick them graphically and delete them that way? So far as I know, visualizing a chain will not visualize the lines, curves and point components. I could describe the chain and then manually visualize and delete the components but that again is a tedious and error prone solution. It is rare that I would have chains that share components. I can really see a need here for some way to delete all the components of a chain at once.
1.-When deleting a chain from COGO and more specifically from navigator make sure that in cogo the "Visualization" mode is not set to "Disable visualization", set it to temporary visualization or permanent visualization, otherwise the chain will be deleted from the GPK but the graphic will stay in the dgn.
2.-Deleting a chain is not going to delete the points, curves, spirals which are subcomponents of that chain. The chain is treated as another individual element in the GPK. The same points may be part of another chain at the same time (usually in survey chains). If the curves, spirals and lines are also drawn they will not be deleted if the chain is deleted. Deleting the points, curves, spirals individually from Navigator with the same settings in cogo as explained in answer 1 will delete them from the GPK and the dgn.
3.-There is not a control in place at this time to automatically handle point chain dtm number/names conflicts at this time when importing XML files. The only advice here is to toggle off the "Redefine" option in Cogo, if there is a conflict the element will not be overwritten and a warning in red will be displayed in the cogo dialog.
A couple of issues I've had with COGO:
If I delete a chain from COGO, it leaves behind the component lines, curves and points. Is there a utility that will clean all of them out simultaneously or how do I remove the "orphaned" components, Doing it manually is a tedious process and could result in deleting a component that is being used by a valid chain.
When importing points from a LandXML file, how do I handle point number conflicts when a point is already being used in COGO? The same issue applies to chains and surfaces.
