A few questions regarding concrete tank design in staad
1. Is it possible to place varying surface loads (triangular) representing the lateral soil pressure on the tank walls?
2. Is there an example of this? This post LINK states that the example exists however I can't seem to find it.
Thanks!
You can use the Hydrostatic option within plate loads to generate the soil pressure. Please refer to the screenshot below
I have attached the example10 mentioned in the post. I have actually added a load case 2 to the example which is a lateral soil pressure loading

Dear Mr Sye, hope you are fine. I was trying to get connected with you on underground tank design without any inside water. Approximate size is 8m x 7m x6.5m depth inside wall to wall. I am considering Self weight ,Motor operated Valve (MOV) as DL , Lateral active earth pressure all 4 sides , Hydrostatic subsoil water pressure on wall acting outside wall , and accidental full water load inside RCC tank due to leak , Surchage , LL on top slab. I need following support:
1) Which load combinations i should use.
2) What about buoyancy- is there any STAAD support for check.
3) Tutorial bentley videos
Appreciate your prompt support and will wait eagerly
