shear wall design

On the staad example no. 9 regarding shear wall analysis, the wall is connected to columns & beams using surface mesh command. could anyone help if we model it without columns & beams as most shear wall do in the building. because i tried modeling a 4storey building and using floor load, the load can't be read near the shear wall if without a beam attached to it.

  • Out of topic but just wonder how did you enter these load combinations? Have you exported .std from an another program.

  • IT SO HAPPENED THAT IT REACHED TO 150 PLUS LOAD COMBINATIONS BECAUSE THERE WERE TWO LOAD CASES FOR DEAD LOAD: LOAD CASE 5 & 6. IN LOAD CASE 5 WE ANTICIPATE FUTURE LOADS. WITHOUT IT PERHAPS THE GENERATED LOAD CASES WOULD HAVE BEEN 90 TO 100 ESTIMATED. THIS IS DONE USING THE COMMANDS LOADING EDIT AUTO LOAD RULES WHERE YOU CAN EDIT LOAD FACTORS BASED ON YOUR CODE. THEN GO BACK TO COMMANDS LOADING AUTOMATIC LOAD COMBINATIONS AND STAAD WILL BE THE ONE TO COMBINE THEM RESPECTIVELY. I EDITED THEN IT TO REPEAT LOADS ( ONLY THE WORDS FROM EXAMPLE:  LOAD COMBINATION 20 TO LOAD 20 AT STAAD EDITOR) TO MATCH THE CHANGE COMMAND WITH P-DELTA ANALYSIS TO CONSIDER SECONDARY STRESS.
