Background

The Create Symbol tool is used to create and modify symbols to be inserted on project pages for all drawing modes.

Seed files

When Create Symbol is selected, the seed file specified for the drawing mode of the project page that is open is selected by default, but another seed file can be selected in the first step of the wizard. The seed files are specified for each mode in [[Options]] > Project Options > Standards > Grid/Snap Settings. If no project page is open when Create Symbol is selected, the seed file for the Primary mode is used. The Primary mode is specified in [[Options]] > Project Options > Standards > General.

Save Symbol

Symbols are saved in catalogs. When modifying a symbol or creating a new symbol based on an existing symbol, the catalog in which the original symbol resides will be selected by default for the Save in field in the Save Symbol step of the wizard. When creating a new symbol, the catalog at the top of the list in [[Catalog Paths]] will be selected by default for the Save in field.

To start the Create Symbol tool

Select Manage ribbon tab > Catalog group > Create Symbol
