In this case you should go the other way, set the Convergence Check Frequency to 1. This makes the calculation engine recalculate the VSP speed on every trial, and the model will converge much quicker (those 55-56 trials on those timesteps will reduce to a normal level of trials)

The original default EPANet/WaterCAD settings are of course, a compromise between accuracy and computational speed, primarily due to desktop computing power that existed through the 1990s. So the default settings gave good results most of the time (but not all the time), whilst not having to wait hours for the model to complete a run. This is why the default setting was put at 2 (ie. recalculate controlled elements every other trial). However, you could probably say on typical 2013 PC hardware there is perhaps no longer a need for this to be left at 2, and should instead be set at 1 by default to prevent strange calculation results artefacts that can otherwise creep in.

In this particular model the issue gives crazy answers at these timesteps because the calculation engine thinks that it has already checked in previous trials that all controls have been triggered, all control actions have been completed, and because the system flows didn't change between trials (ie. within Accuracy tolerance) then the solution is "converged". However, with the additional WaterCAD VSP elements that have been added to the WaterCAD branch of the EPANet Calc Engine code, it "forgets" that the VSP pump speed "control" also needs to be recalculated in the final calculation trial to get an accurate answer. (which of course the original EPANet calc engine doesn't need to worry about.......it has no Variable Speed Pumping!). The modellors working on this model eventually gave up on solving the issue, but a few months later one of modellors escalated it up to me to have a look at.

Chris - sorry for confusion.

I am saying and agree with the same as you, and question the same results you are seeing.

Use the stair tool to create a 3d Stair. Reference that model several different ways, rotated, flipped, it should not matter.

Then when the extraction looks at it it - should then always create parallel to the run of the stair and to the orientation of the view when created

There are alot of cells and such that do not take advantage or orientation. A Point cell for text should correct this and be used in some cases.

I'll leave that up to the programmers.

The seismic load generation in STAAD only calculates the horizontal portion Qe. The factors like Rho or the vertical effect factors like 0.2SDS has to be calculated manually and applied as factors to the appropriate loads when defining load combinations.

To answer your second question, the best way to consider dead/live loads in seismic weight calculation is to define these as reference load of type MASS. Then there is no need to define these loads as part of the seismic load again as STAAD would automatically get the data from the MASS type reference load data.

Sometimes when I start Microstation it shows a green loading bar and begins a "Managed Workspace Export" process, which takes a long time, leaving me unable to use the program. When I click "Cancel", the green bar disappears, but in the status bar it still says "Receiving Changes" and "Transferring", going through every single document in the directory.

Is it possible to truly cancel this operation so I can continue working? Thanks

There is one sample that is a stand-alone application with simple tree and list view GUI. It is called Navigator. If you open up the sample solution file, the project is called pw_navigator. It is the only stand-alone sample application I am aware of. I don't know of any stand-alone custom libraries samples.

If I recall Export/Import utility operations correctly, you don't need to do multiple imports just to get versions in. Just list the versions in order, starting with oldest first. As long as the destination folder and document name are the same and the version number for each is unique, versioning should happen. Just make sure your files to be imported are also separate for each version.

That said, there may be good reasons to run multiple imports, not least of which may be the limitation on how rows you can put in an Excel spreadsheet. If you do separate imports grouped by versions, you would not need to populate the Project or item id fields - those are pretty much only useful when you are importing back something you previously exported.

I don't recall if the the import utility relies on "Document Creation Conflict" user settings for versioning, but it might. So it would be worth testing the setting for the account that the import will run under - set the Default Action to create new version for name conflicts.

I don't know if you can do string manipulations of attributes set to use System Variable type. But it should work just fine as a Select statement.

Set the default and update values as Select statements on Title_0, and have it update the attribute whenever Title_1, Title_2, Title_3 or Title_4 attributes are updated. The SQL is something like this (for SQL server).

SELECT $EDIT#Title_1$ + ', ' + $EDIT#Title_2$ + ', ' + $EDIT#Title_3$ + ', ' + $EDIT#Title_4$
