ProjectWise Drive

Focus on your work. Let Drive get the files where they need to be.

ProjectWise Drive lets everyone on the team work with project files as if they are local.

ProjectWise Drive introduces new capabilities for non-CAD application users to seamlessly and cost effectively work with files on their desktops and have all the power of ProjectWise including workflows, attributes, and document numbering. This will remove the practice of storing project WIP and deliverables in several repositories, and result in better collaboration and productivity.

Existing ProjectWise users can use this lighter and more accessible interface to work with ProjectWise content. Combined with the new ProjectWise Web integration with Office 365 this creates an opportunity to invite users who did not use ProjectWise before to join the collaboration and still work in a familiar environment.

ProjectWise Explorer remains the primary interface for those who need the power of deep integration with CAD design tools and many advanced ProjectWise functions.

However, ProjectWise Drive also has something to offer to design and engineering application users. ProjectWise Drive offers a natural folder structure with all files instantly accessible from the desktop. This could improve workflows for engineering applications, which do not have ProjectWise Explorer integration especially ones requiring access to many files at once.

How it works

ProjectWise Drive syncs ProjectWise work areas with your computer, so that you can access and work on your ProjectWise documents directly from File Explorer or from your desktop applications.

When a ProjectWise Web or ProjectWise 365 user wants to use ProjectWise Drive, the first thing they need to do is download and install ProjectWise Drive onto their Windows PC. ProjectWise Drive is downloaded directly from ProjectWise Web or ProjectWise 365 (Documents). Once ProjectWise Drive is installed, the user goes back to ProjectWise Web or ProjectWise 365 and selects the project they want to synchronize with ProjectWise Drive. Once a project is synchronized, the work area connection in the project that is enabled for ProjectWise Drive becomes available in the ProjectWise Drive node in File Explorer.

From the ProjectWise Drive node in File Explorer, you can instantly begin working on the documents in your project as if you were working on files and folders on your local file system. You can download documents (or entire folders), check out and check in documents, add new folders to ProjectWise, and add new documents to ProjectWise using Document Creation Wizard which supports environment attributes and document code. You can also open documents directly from your desktop applications for viewing and editing.
