Sign-in name question

Not sure this is the right forum but on in Bentley Communities under Settings (available when you click avatar in upper right corner) it list my sign-in name as a 32 character hexadecimal number. Also, there is no way to change it. Is this by design? If so, what does the hex number mean?

  • Hello Tank, sorry for the delay. The "hex" number you see in the Settings area is a GUID (globally unique identifier) which is used to link your Bentley Communities account to your Bentley.com account. It is not used to sign in or display your name - you will still sign in with your Bentley account email and password, and your Bentley Communities "display name" will show when you post something on the site. Your display name is currently set to "Tank".

  • Thanks for the info, Jesse. This wasn't affecting my sign in. I was just wondering because I saw it there in settings. Maybe you should call it "Globally unique identifier" instead of sign-in name. So I take it we cannot change our sign-in name?

Duncan, uh, yeah, I guess it's resolved but are you psychic? You asked before Jesse responded.

  • Duncan may have thought you were referring to your display name ("Tank"), as we have had issues in the past where the display name shows as the GUID.

No, the UserName cannot be changed as it would break the single-sign-on link with your Bentley.com account. The sign in name should not be exposed anywhere else so there should be no need to change it.

  • Yep. That's about right! Checked the account and saw it was all ok!
