New Bentley Events calendar: Is it a kind of bad joke?

Hi,

today I realized Bentley Events calendar has been redesigned and also my former link to webinars calendar is now redirected to this new page.

Seriously, is it a joke? Or it's some basic school UX training? It's just wasted space disaster and demonstration how to not design any page.

Ok, I understand, Bentley has expanded their activities and will sell earphones and there are plenty of videos about them. But where is any valuable information?

How can I see, in a simple list, arranged by date, what events and webinars are scheduled for e.g. next month?

Whereas in the past I was able to check what is available and to evaluate it in relation with my agenda in a second, no way to do it now without filtering events and writing dates somewhere else. Just disgusting, annoying and confusing. Zero user friendly access.

I am logged to tens of webs (e-shops, communities etc.) and this page is the only that complains about my web browser configuration. Sorry, maybe your big dream is to be Avast / Jumpshot follower and has become spying big brother, but not, I will not open my browser more than is enough for all other webs.
  • Where recorded sessions are available now? I tried to use some older links, but it seems the calendar with recorded videos was removed and I always ended at this ugly page.

  • Hello Jan,
I had the chance to review your comments regarding our NEW events calendar: New Bentley Events calendar: Is it a kind of bad joke?

As you have noticed, we are in a transition period, changing many of our legacy systems and updating our processes that will grow as Bentley’s event offerings continue to expand.

To address a few of your concerns:

    • Today I realized Bentley Events calendar has been redesigned and also my former link to webinars calendar is now redirected to this new page. Correct! Our previous event pages were in a system that we are no longer using, so all pages.info.bentley links have been redirected to our Events overview page on Bentley.com.

    • Seriously, is it a joke? Or it's some basic school UX training? It's just wasted space disaster and demonstration how to not design any page. This is a BRAND NEW calendar option, that is pulling all physical and virtual events into a SINGLE calendar, with direct links to registration pages and tradeshow landing pages. Our previous search and registration process took folks from Bentley.com to a totally separate system that also acted as a pass-through, thus expanding the number of clicks the user had to endure in order to register or obtain event information. This is continually being worked on as it is a new concept that we developed with several vendors. Have no fear – we will continue to improve! As of today, this calendar is only 3 weeks old!

    • Ok, I understand, Bentley has expanded their activities and will sell earphones and there are plenty of videos about them. But where is any valuable information? If you notice, the current visuals are associated with our different event TYPES. The headsets represent webinars. The mic represents Bentley hosted events, etc… These are a temporary implementation. We are working on imagery to represent industry/brands. If you take the time to expand the event tiles, there is a ton of valuable information being displayed! See below – you have event type, title, date, time, and an in depth description!

     • How can I see, in a simple list, arranged by date, what events and webinars are scheduled for e.g. next month? This is an EASY question to answer! The calendar is arranged by event type and date. Select which filter option is most meaningful based on your needs and then the most recent event will appear 1st:

    • Whereas in the past I was able to check what is available and to evaluate it in relation with my agenda in a second, no way to do it now without filtering events and writing dates somewhere else. Just disgusting, annoying and confusing. Zero user friendly access. Give it a chance! We know that change is not easy, but it is indeed inevitable! We’re pleased with the progress that has been made with our NEW registration systems and calendars, but know that it takes time to get used to it all. We’re always here for support and can help you navigate should you continue to experience issues.

    Have a nice day.
    Lauren

  • Hi Lauren,

I had the chance to review your comments regarding our NEW events calendar

It's not calendar, because calendar looks in a different way, calendars are organized accordingly to date, whereas existing display is just a mess (chronologically organized tiles).

And maybe it's new, but it's not even beta, it has proof of concept quality, nothing that can be used.

Our previous event pages were in a system that we are no longer using

Which interpreted from users' perspective, you did not prepare replacement with equal functionality before the end of the system life.

so all pages.info.bentley links have been redirected to our Events overview page on Bentley.com

Which means you have removed existing functionality without replacement. As far as I understand, now there is no way to replay recorded events, which I saw as the most useful feature, because often there is no chance to participate on scheduled webinars because of business appointments and other obligations, so the recordings were great.

This is a BRAND NEW calendar option

It's not, it's (as  aptly wrote) over nigh quickly to be done concept. Based on my 30 years experience from software development, extended by project management and software testing including international certification, it cannot pass any UX and functional testing.

that is pulling all physical and virtual events into a SINGLE calendar...

Blah blah blah ... let's talk in term of professional agile development (not agile as implemented by many companies today including Bentley, which is based on release of untested beta low quality releases): Every release has to bring business value(s) to users. Where new value is in your BRAND NEW calendar, when old functionality was removed without equal replacement, even simple calendar features are not available and UX is so bad that it cannot be used?

A fact something is NEW does not solve the problem when it's bad work.

    These are a temporary implementation.

Seriously? To release something temporary on web of multimillion company?

If you take the time to expand the event tiles, there is a ton of valuable information being displayed! See below – you have event type, title, date, time, and an in depth description!

I hope it's a joke, not serious justification. "micro font size" in Italic and gray color is professionally designed UX? Why in-depth description should be available on first page? It does not make sense.

To ensure and check it's not my personal problem, I utilize a chance to show your "calendar" to more people, all between 30 - 60, typically graduated, working in IT or technical disciplines.

Nobody from them was able to easily find, read and interpret your "tons of information". No exceptions, everybody told me it's strange page and it's not clear what is its role, because it's not calendar (in format used by other webs), not list (because of tiles) and because of the design, eyes become tired quickly.

People working in IT and project management had the same feeling as me: It's a proof of concept in alpha quality, good for evaluation and testing of concepts. They do not believe it's available on public web.

This is an EASY question to answer!

Yes, it's easy, because it's nonsense. Because of so much space wasting, it's impossible to see what events (not filtered) are in next month to evaluate, whether there is something interesting (topic is not specified upfront) in time where these is free space in my calendar.

Also, to read tiny data and time information, where there is several times the same data, suddenly another date, is exhausting.

And where is ability to search by date? No, it's not possible, so to search what is available next month is not possible. Please, do not make a fool of me.

We’re pleased with the progress that has been made with our NEW registration systems and calendars

Maybe you are pleased, but I not. Tapping on shoulder does not create any good output.

Honestly, such result would not pass deployment "go" on any project I participated (in different roles).

I do not see any reason to continue in this discussion, because we have different expectations how professionally designed web, offering good UX and high user value, should be designed and implemented. My experience from last year is that what worked in the past has been canceled and new designed web pages are much worse and despite of many promises (e.g. software download page) that features will be returned back and the pages will be improved, nothing has happened for months and month.

You competitors offer better tools to reach information, see e.g. Autodesk event calendar, where I am able to receive the most important information during a blink of eye, nice big font, well structured, no extra filtering is necessary for general overview. When details are required, it's evident where to click.

Learn from professionals how great user tool has to be implemented.

    Regards,

      Jan
