How to delete a thumb.db file?

Windows 10 Enterprise Ver 1903, OS build 18362,592, 64 bit

How to I delete a thumb.db file when Windows says the file is open in Windows Explorer?

I  found this Wiki, but it does not really help me.

https://communities.bentley.com/products/microstation/w/microstation__wiki/37996/turn-off-creation-of-thumbs-db-file

The Wiki and everything I find from a google search talks about how to prevent the creation of the thumb file, but not how to delete an existing one.

Thanks,

Brian L.

  • From my experience, if the file is not shared, re-log in will release the lock on the thumbs.db file. If the file is shared, either wait for everyone to turn off their machine, or you have to involved IT to take the shared folder offline and then you can delete it.
