Mimic The Old OverView - Birds Eye View With This Keyin
Original Tip Date:

Mimic the old
OverView / Bird's Eye View
with this keyin
Wow! Way to go
Steve Atkinson
for contributing this excellent tip!
This keyin will open a second window, the "bird's eye view", and allow you to pan in a second window using a location selected from bird's eye view.
To use it:
Place the following keyin on a function key:
window bottomtotop;pan view;selview 1;%d;window bottomtotop;reset
Open
Window 2
, make it as small as possible and do a
Fit View
.
This will be the bird's eye window.
Open and maximize
Window 1
.
Select
Pan View
and ensure that
Dynamic Panning
is turned on.
Set the desired zoom factor in
Window 1
. This is where the detail work will be done.
Note,
Window 2
should be hidden behind Window 1.
Now, when you press invoke the keyin, Window 2 will pop up over top of Window 1 and the dynamic pan tool will automatically invoked. Simply move your cursor into Window 2 and you'll notice that Window 1 will track along with the cursor. When Window 1 shows the desired working area, just place a data point in Window 2. Once the datapoint has been entered, Window 2 will disappear behind Window 1 and you can proceed with the detail work in Window 1.
