For easier orientation in three-dimensional space you can help yourself with a few settings and get used to some mouseclick commands instead of tool selections.
1. Switch on the "ACS-Triad" and the dispay of the "Grid" (View Settings for each View).
2. Set a Grid (Settings>Design File) that makes sense with your Working Units. Also in the Category "Grid" set the Orientation: to "ACS". The Grid-Lock stays off as we want rather just see the grid for orientation.
3. Set your ACSes. In the dialog "Auxiliary-Coordinates". Rightclick one of the rows (most often you will only find one) and select "Reset to Global" (and if you want this ACS for all views rightclick again on that row and "Set All Views". You may then want to save this now as a "Create a new ACS" in the dialog called e.g "Global CoordSys"
(as Key-In: "dia coo op;acs res; acs act all;dia coo cl" - this shortly opens the coordinates dialog sets the aboveand closes it - apply this to a F-Key or create a "Task" button)
Want to save some picking and clicking? That just requires a little excercising this ABC:
a. To rotate your view you can press Shift+Mousewheel and hold into your view (keep pressed both) and move the mouse. You can see how your grid is rotating along.
b. To set the views rotation origin you can Right-Left-Mouseclick.
c. To place a 3D-Cell (like those robots from Utilities>3D Warehouse) press Ctrl+Right-Left-Mouseclick. This activates AccuDraw and at the same time snaps a "O"rientation point (you may want to "T" as well) - this does not place the cell right away though - now you can - thanks to AccuDraw - move your your mouse into the required direction and keyin a distance before you finally really press the left mousebutton (for "Datapoint") accept the placement at the right spot-
(Now this will naturally not work when you have set your "Tentative" to the mousewheel - as you may know from old... I state though: The few cases you may need "Tentative" instead of the "AccuSnap" you can well Right-Left Click)
And last-but-not-least: Switch on the "Running Coordinates" (rightclick into the statusbar)that will keep you informed about where you are.
Try this file with the above settings that may serve as a seedfile.
