Academic Seminar at EGE University in Izmir, Turkey

On 2nd March Be Careers hosted an one day Academic seminar at EGE University in Izmir, Turkey (3rd biggest Turkish city with population of over 4 million). Some 35 attendees (18 educators and 17 students from local Universities) followed live and pre-recorded presentations about Bentley, our academic program Be Careers Network and how our technologies are used by Industry in Turkey.

After my short welcome note and introductory of agenda, Arif Bilgic (Bentley’s Industry Sales Director for Turkey) went on stage and introduced Bentley to the audience.

My Be Careers presentation followed. I spoke in details about the benefits of Be Careers subscription (comprehensiveness of our product portfolio, complementary home use license for students, free on-line on demand courses, networking with peers and Industry members e.t.c.…and everything via STUDENTserver). I emphasized once again that we are not only a software vendor providing our technologies to Universities at highly discounted prices, but a partner who is working with academia on creating teaching solution in order to help them incorporating our technologies in their curriculum. While helping educators enforcing the concepts that they are teaching, we are at the same time making sure that students graduate with the skills necessary to join the workforce.

After the lunch break, our Water Expert Dr. Slavco Velickov provided an one and half hour overview of our Water Solutions. Slavco got his Phd at Technical University of Delft-The Netherlands where he is a guest lecturer (as well as at UNESCO’s Institute for Hydraulics in Delft), his presentations are always well received by academics.

“Last, but not least” was Arif’s overview  of IZSU’s (Izmir Water and Wastewater Authority) Geographic Infrastructure Information System Project. For this project IZSU won 2011 Be Inspired Award in the Category “ Innovation in Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater Networks”

All in all, it was a very successful event that will certainly help in creating a closer relationship between Be Careers and academia in Turkey. Demand for our technologies at Turkish Universities is steadily growing across all disciplines with WaterCAD/WaterGEMS being the champions. We plan to organize a similar event in Istanbul within the coming 2-3 months.
