As steel bridge teams everywhere regroup for the 2014 challenge, Bentley is pleased to announce that we will again co-sponsor the Student Steel Bridge Competition.
For the sixth consecutive year, we are happy to help steel bridge teams prepare to prove their mettle (and metal) in ASCE conference competitions in the Spring, as they strive to win an invitation to the national finals in May 2014!
This competition embodies applied learning of Engineering, testing students’ skills in steel design, fabrication, scheduling, and management—while providing valuable experience working as part of a design team.
Along with our continuing financial support of the National competition, Bentley is pleased to once again offer steel bridge teams from participating ASCE student chapters free software and training.
For the 2014 competition, we are offering the following:
The free learning materials are available here, divided into two sections:
This learning path provides a useful guide for anyone interested in an example of using STAAD.Pro V8i for modeling steel bridge structures, applying load tests, and performing an analysis.
We will send out a disc with software and license to your student chapter’s Faculty Advisor (if we haven’t already—we were pleased to receive direct requests from steel bridge teams that used STAAD.Pro in previous years, and wish to do so again).
Participating ASCE student chapters can also contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org if the disc is not delivered to your faculty advisor within the next few weeks. If you contact us, please use a subject line of Student Steel Bridge Competition Request and provide the following information:
Faculty Advisor Name
Steel Bridge team Captain's name
Full Shipping Address on campus.
Please note: if your school subscribes to the Academic SELECT program, then your student team already has access to this software, via STUDENTserver! You can use your normal login for STUDENTserver to access the training materials via the link above.
The 2013 finals at University of Washington were exciting, as usual, and I look forward to meeting the finalists at the 2014 National Student Steel Bridge Competition at University of Akron May 23- 24, 2014.
Best of luck to all the participating teams!
