On November 21, 2017, a BIM Advancement Lab location was inaugurated at Lovely Professional University (LPU), Jalandhar, Punjab, India.

The ceremony was led by Dr. Lovi Raj Gupta (Executive Dean, LPU) and Vinayak Trivendi (Vice President, Bentley Institute). Also in attendance were Dr. Rajesh Kumar (Dean, Engineering), Dr. Harpal Thethi (Associate Director Training and Placement), Varinder Singh (Deputy Director), Mandeep Kaur (HOD Transportation), Dolonchapa Prabhakar (HOD Structural), Rominder Bedi (CEO, Innovative Systel), Arun Kumar (Manager of Academic Relations, India, Bentley Institute), and Charu Chaudhari (Academic Relations Manager, Bentley Institute).

Mr. Varinder Singh, Deputy Director of LPU, was so impressed with the world-class setup in Bentley’s Pune office for BIM learning, collaboration, and best practices, that he wanted the same resources for LPU to help students prepare for careers in and around Punjab.

Vinayak Trivedi said “In these days of mega infrastructure projects, the focus of architects, engineers, constructors, and owner-operators is on delivering projects on time and within cost--which is the principle at the heart of BIM processes and technology. In order for students to be competitively employable, it is important for them to supplement their disciplinary knowledge with practical experience of cutting-edge technologies. It is equally important that engineering institutes expose students to the big picture of the entire project lifecycle, through the principles of BIM. This can be effectively achieved through a collaboration between academia and industry, and the BIM Advancement Lab at LPU is one good method to bring all that together.”

The Lab is founded upon a powerful partnership. Bentley Institute brings its experience and best practices learned from its BIM Advancement Academy locations around the world, such as the Crossrail BIM Advancement Academy in London. LPU faculty, naturally, offer their many years of experience and engineering and educational expertise. And Innovative Systel, a Bentley Institute Training Partner and Channel Partner, will help support the new Lab at LPU with training for a portfolio of Bentley solutions related to BIM for infrastructure projects

Bentley Institute’s BIM Advancement Labs, through collaborative online and classroom courses, leverage a combination of technology and scenario-based learning—to develop lasting BIM knowledge and technology skills that make students industry-ready.

LPU is the largest private university in India, with over 47,000 students from 29 states and 50 countries. The more than 150 faculty members of the Civil Engineering and Architectural departments are excited to expand their already significant use of Bentley technology into a fully integrated BIM curriculum for their more than 2,600 students in 2018.
