On November 23, 2017, a BIM Advancement Lab location was inaugurated at Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET), Jammu, India.
The ceremony was led by Dr. Ankur Gupta (Director, MIET) and Vinayak Trivendi (Vice President, Bentley Institute). Also in attendance were Rominder Bedi (CEO, Innovative Systel), Arun Kumar (Manager of Academic Relations, India, Bentley Institute), and Charu Chaudhari (Academic Relations Manager, Bentley Institute). For the occasion, renowned civil engineers for the state--Darshan Gupta (Structural Engineer) and Vinod Malhotra (former Chief Town Planner, Jammu)—spoke about the design of smart cities, and the importance of BIM for all infrastructure assets.
The BIM Advancement Lab is a collaboration between MIET, Bentley Institute, and Innovative Systel (a Bentley Institute Training Partner and Channel Partner). The lab will help contribute to development of Jammu and Kashmir infrastructure projects by offering collaborative online and classroom courses, with a combination of technology and scenario-based learning.
Bentley Institute’s experience with mega projects by global companies, and extensive knowledge of best practices (learned from its BIM Advancement Academy locations around the world), will help MIET students to develop lasting BIM knowledge and technology skills—to become industry-ready and highly competitive in the job market. Innovative Systel will offer support via training on the portfolio of Bentley solutions related to BIM for infrastructure projects.
MIET is located in a remote state where infrastructure is a focus for government agencies, who need talented recruits for the purpose. This BIM Advancement Lab will be a technical skills development center for engineers not only from Jammu and Kashmir but also from the neighboring states of northern India (Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Chandigarh, and Uttarakhand).
MIET joins 5 other BIM Advancement Lab locations established across India by Bentley Institute, including:
