Bentley Systems, Incorporated is proud to continue our partnership with the Environmental and Spatial Technology (EAST) Initiative, a unique educational program, featuring exemplary community-based project work completed by middle and high school students.
Over 200 EAST programs converged on the Hot Springs, Arkansas Convention Center to celebrate some of today's brightest young minds at the Annual Conference, March 1-3. There, a gathering of over 2100 enthusiasts celebrated these students' efforts, as they presented their projects and shared their experiences of the past academic year.
From the ambitious Student Ambassadors to EAST founder Tim Stephenson, Director of Training and Events, Melanie Ridlon to CEO Matt Dozier, the attendees experienced the passion of Arkansas Education Commissioner, Dr. Tom Kimbrell, and the heartfelt appreciation of the United Service Organization, beneficiary of the 2010-2011 National Service Project.
The theme of the 2011 conference was ‘Support our Troops and their Families’. To that end, Bentley challenged EAST students to design their own USO facility. The top entry was recognized as winner of the Bentley MicroStation Student Competition. Katie Risi of Jonesboro High School won the honor, with her 3-D model of a custom USO facility, designed on a single level, for maximum accommodation.
For her efforts, Katie received a Bentley Student Academic Suite along with a $100 gift card to Best Buy. Congratulations Katie! We hope to see more of your great project work next year.
Since Katie came down with the flu and was unable to accompany her fellow EAST students to the conference, Jonesboro High School EAST Facilitator Greg Quinn accepted the prizes on her behalf.
EAST Facilitators, keep a look out for the announcement of the 2012 Bentley MicroStation Student Competition subject. Encourage your students to enter for a chance to win professional software and other great prizes (ipods, gift cards, etc.).
