Meet the final member of our 2014 jury, and good luck finalizing your designs!

Stuart S. Chen, Ph.D., P.E.
University at Buffalo, State University of New York (SUNY)

Dr. Chen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil, Structural, and Environmental Engineering at the University at Buffalo, State University of New York (SUNY). His research is focused on Bridge Engineering, and he teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in Structural and Bridge Engineering. He also developed UB’s Civil Engineering CAD course, and is the instructor for the sophomore Engineering Mechanics course (Statics)—a class taken by most students in UB’s Engineering program.

Dr. Chen received the Presidential Young Investigator Award from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Engineering Educator of the Year award from the New York State Society of Professional Engineers (NYSSPE).  His research results have been published in Engineering Structures, American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) journals, and Transportation Research Record.  

In addition to his teaching and research, Dr. Chen serves on several committees, including: University of Buffalo’s Civil Engineering Undergraduate Studies Committee; the ACI BIM Committee; the AASHTO/NSBA Task Group on Data Modeling for Interoperability; the ASCE/CI Committee on Digital Project Delivery; and the buildingSMART openINFRA Steering Committee.
