Steel app

Since the steel mdl will not run in PowerDraft I've been searching for another tool that can replace it for free or cheap. So far this is the best option I have found, but may not currently have all of the sizes needed. steelwork

I just wanted to share this free tool I found in case anyone else wants to check it out since it took me a while to stumble upon it.

  • Yes. I wish the original steel.ma would work in PowerDraft, but unfortunately Bentley has crippled PowerDraft where the app won't work. If the steelwork app ever incorporates the AISC library it will be a great tool for us.

you'll just have to search for acad blocks of the aisc steel section libraries and turn into cell library then use the  cell selection tool or make  an sidebar menu to load specific cells...or resort to a pulldown menu... pretty easy to build and  put in dgn lib and everyone at your work can share...

Alternative is  build the cells from a v8i install with temp license  v8i and  steel .ma for your aisc  and then can use the cells as above...or use the  tool you mentioned previously to build the cells...

  • I have actually already created a cell library like this. I haven't gone to the effort of creating a custom menu for it though as our bridge engineer would rather use the tool he has in AutoCAD to get the shape and then copy it to MicroStation than sort through a big cell library. Even if I made a custom menu for it, it would still me more cumbersome than the functionality that an app provides.
