With lots of people and I assume companies bring unhappy with the present licence model is this likely to be re-evaluated and possible changed further down the line?
A possible change would be to set up online licences so that when a program is started it first checks with Bentley's servers to see if there is a licence available. If there is then the program starts, if not it doesn't. This works very well with other software vendors programs (eg The NBS) and would solve a lot of the ongoing issues and bad feeling that there is at the moment.
Any thoughts Bentley/anyone?
Unknown said:I'm a little confused by this, Bentley has offered hosted (on-line) licensing longer than most vendors. In fact we've pushed other vendors to follow a similar strategy. Our Bentley users can connect to SELECTserver anywhere in the world as long as they have an active internet connection. With the trusted licensing model they can even go for 30 days without connecting to a license manager.
Perhaps I didn't phrase the question correctly. What i am suggesting is an online licence restriction tool, so that (as you have stated) wherever you are you can grab a licence or not if one isn't available.

We have had SELECT from when it was first brought out!
+1
I have wished the same thing since the previous licence server consept was dumped few years ago. I hate the the currect way where there is no proper way to control over usage of the licences. It is a pain for small companies like us.
