I would like to know, if anyone has experienced the same problems as I have after trying to reduce the numbers of licenses.
First a bit of background information, I am a single use of Bentley software and history with Bentley is: In 1993 I

RE: Problems when trying to reduce number of licenses.

I am pretty sure that both my account manager and his manager is aware of what I would like to change.

This the mail from 6. Januar from my account manager,

Hi Jonas,

I just talked to the client, and they want to remove Prostructures from their renewal, and keep the rest of the products.

Can you please issue a new updates RAS or confirm the change is ok?

Regards,

Mathis

And this is the mail from Pamela Murray who is EMEA Renewals Manager

Thank you for taking my call this morning. I have reviewed your account and as you requested the surrender prior to the 30 days’ notice period you are entitled to do so. We will need to review the paperwork and will require a License confirmation to show your new portfolio and revised portfolio balancing to maintain you with the products:

1. Microstation

1. Bentley Clash

1. Passport

1. Aecosim

As you are on SELECT 2004 version, we also require a SELECT 2014 signed when making contract adjustments.

Apologies for the delay in responding to your request. The invoice will be held until we can resolve the rebill request.

Thank you for your patience,

Kind Regards,

Pamela

As you can see, everyone involved in this "soup" is aware of what should be changed.

I have sent yet another SR, the third, hoping someone at Bentley look into this problem.

RE: Problems when trying to reduce number of licenses.

Have you communicated this in these terms to your Bentley Account Manager? On your renewal date this should simply be totally possible. Be sure to communicate the intent well before of the renewal date however. You'll probably have to uninstall the PowerProStructures and explicitly ask for the surrender of those Licenses. Confirming it is possible is not the same as confirming the change will go into effect on the next renewal date.

"Would it be possible to surrender..." is not the same as "I want to surrender..."
Check the communication with your Account Managers and see if what you want is clearly communicated without room for misinterpretation. You don't want this soap to go on for another year, or do you?

RE: Problems when trying to reduce number of licenses.

Thank you for your input.
I am willing to surrender the license for PowerProStructures, all I am asking for, is that they simply remove it.
Both my account manager Mr. Hasle and Mrs. Murray have stated in E-mails, that is it possible and within the scope of a Select Agreement.
It is not like, I am asking for a solution where I put the license on hold, meaning expecting to get it back in the future.

RE: Problems when trying to reduce number of licenses.

You'd think that, but it would have to be someone pretty high up the ladder since apparently a lot of people have worked on this case. I wouldn't bank on those people reading the forums. It will, no doubt, take some time before the "right" people are notified of your issue.

The only real way of reducing the number of licenses on your SELECT contract (that I know of), is by surrendering the no longer necessary licenses. You can't simply take a few licenses out of SELECT. You don't get a node-locked license for the ones you surrendered. It's pretty much all or nothing.

If you cancel SELECT you get non-poolable licenses for the licenses you current have (shouldn't be a problem for you). Of course you'll lose the ability to upgrade to the latest version as well. Depending on import/export requirements, this may, or may not, be a good idea in your case.

You can't just take a few licenses out of SELECT and keep a few in SELECT. They clearly have enough headaches as it is.

If you do want to cancel SELECT, you might be better off doing that through a registered letter instead of a simple E-mail.

RE: Problems when trying to reduce number of licenses.

Well, I was hoping that someone from Bentley would step in, but perhaps that would be to much to hope for.

RE: Problems when trying to reduce number of licenses.

Well, that doesn't sound very good.
The ability to change from one Product to another is something that most Software Vendors don't support, but if it's done like this then of course it's pretty worthless.
Luckily you already own Revit or you'd be stuck with paying a, in the long term, relatively expensive subscription.

You can surrender Bentley licenses you don't need. If you just want to keep paying SELECT for a "nice to have" ABD, then that should be entirely possible. Of course with the level of service you seem to have been getting, they're probably going to mess that up as well, unless someone steps in and sorts this mess out.
