Getting billed for Using LumenRT designer, that is supposed to be free/ included in the Microstation license

Hi

We are getting billed for Using LumenRT designer, that software is supposed to be free/ included in the Microstation license that we have. ( was included from Microstation connect update 8 ). Has anyone else had the same problem?

This is very anoying, and Bentley have not been able to fix this issue even after having reported this several months ago.

  • How to run LumenRT Designer(Product ID 2695) in designer mode? Is there a command line switch? As It still also activates Bentley LumenRT(Product ID 2517) on first run and next time runs as LumenRT.

  • It seems LumenRT doesn't recognize Contextcapture Editor(ProductID:2646) as companion product so it doesn't run in Designer mode.

  • This LumenRT Designer activation is so flawed that you may get billed at any moment. It is a trap. For example if companion product will not be for some reason activated it will then run as LumenRT full version and not as Designer. Also if companion product is run each time it again registers LumenRT.

So best option for now is to expire license for Bentley LumenRT (productID 2517)  immediately https://communities.bentley.com/products/licensing/m/licensing_gallery/272191 and set it to read-only so it doesn't reset by itself after sending logs.

This is a list which products currently LumenRT Upd10 recognize as companion products:

    1000 - Microstation
    1934 - AECOsim Building Designer
    2427 - OpenRoads ConceptStation
    2515 - OpenRoads Designer
    2580 - OpenRail ConceptStation

  • Hi Oto,

You can also set up a special select licensing group that omits LumenRT full version from being consumed on any of your organizations machines or users.

  • How? You mean activation groups? It will still allow for 7-day trial on any machines with different users and send those reports.

  • Hi

hm, that sounds bad. This needs to be working  properly everytime with no risk of getting billed.

  • The only time you would get billed for using the LumenRT full version is if you have an activated version of LumenRT on your machine.  The problem that comes into play is when users want to switch between using the free Designer version and the full version on the same machine.  The only way to prevent this now, is to deauthorize the machine from running LumenRT full version.  With the new Bentley Connect licensing coming later this year, your local CAD/IT manager will be able to have more fine grained control over licensing on each machine/user.
