I recently installed WATERCAD on my personal desktop because I needed to record a lecture for my class. I have some major concerns about the behavior of CONNECTION Client
1. It refuses to exit. When I exit the software, it comes back. I do not

RE: Unable to Uninstall WATERCAD or CONNECTION Client.

You are no different than many/all power users, we like to know what's happening on our machines; which Bentley doesn't seem to accept or acknowledge.

Our workaround was to write a quick script to kill the two processes (CC and Licensing): we added the script to the machine startup on a timer (to allow the processes to start first) - this kills them initially. Then we put a shortcut on the desktop to allow users to manually kill them after each Bentley software use (if they want).

I guess the developer next-step would be to attach the script to a system 'close-software' event.. but that was a bit too 'next level' for us.

RE: Unable to Uninstall WATERCAD or CONNECTION Client.

As you can see from my boring signature, I can't fix it. Only offering what works for me. I would not be surprised if it is scanning the machine and it does report back activity (don't know if it is more than use of SES software). It complains if it doesn't get a login at least once a month.

I remove their software on a very frequent basis without problems. Of course, CC is required if you use any SES license managed by CC which it appears you do.

RE: Unable to Uninstall WATERCAD or CONNECTION Client.

Thank you for your help.
As I had mentioned in my original post, CC keeps auto-starting even if I "exit" from the tray. It only stays off if I "end tasks" for licensing server and connection client from the task bar. I am not sure why CC needs to stay in the tray when I am not actively running any Bentley software.

RE: Unable to Uninstall WATERCAD or CONNECTION Client.

Hi Bill,

The only thing enabled was the Bentley licensing server and I disabled it. I understand that I can end task or disable it but I don't think software should work this way. When I am not running software that needs CC, it should stay off. I don't know why include the "Exit" open when it opens 2 seconds later. This is malware-like behavior and poorly programmed in my opinion.

Also, my problem now is that I cannot uninstall the software from my own computer which is ridiculous.

Edit: Forgot to add that I am using Windows 10

RE: Unable to Uninstall WATERCAD or CONNECTION Client.

I should have included disabling automatic updates inside Connection Client. If it is able to update, it likely will overwrite the disabled startup.

RE: Unable to Uninstall WATERCAD or CONNECTION Client.

If you are running Windows 7, please don't. You probably are not getting security patches. Use W10

You have to sign into CC to license as mentioned by Glenn but that's only if the Bentley software is running or you are using its Sync Cloud feature. The best option to you is to

open Task Manager, Startup tab, locate all entries that start with Bentley and disable (that's autostart) This may require elevation (run as admin)

Sign into CC whenever it is automatically opened by the software that needs it.

Whenever not using any Bentley software and it is open, use Task Manager or PowerShell to end task on anything that starts with Bentley (License and CC). They will not reopen until you open software that needs them.

The CC is needed to activate your applications that are using the Subscription Entitlement Service (not SELECTserver activation keys) so it needs to run. There are two settings for it, 'Automatically sign me in' and 'Minimize CONNECTION Client after sign in'.
