We recently enabled Bentley software updates through Connection Client for some apps. Previously this functionality was disabled by company policy for the most part. Our company PCs are running Windows 10 64-bit. Connection Client is the latest version 11.00.02.20. Bentley apps include software like WaterCAD and STAAD.Pro.
Immediately following this settings change, several users reported that after installing Bentley software updates that were listed in their Connection Client, they could no longer run any Bentley apps because it was saying Connection Client is not installed. Even though Connection Client is in fact installed, and running, the user is signed in, and the version of Connection Client didn't change. Restarting the PC doesn't fix it. So apparently something caused their Connection Client to break. So I need to know what is causing Connection Client to break on these PCs?
Our fix for individual users was to uninstall Connection Client and reinstall it. This proved difficult because even after closing Connection Client, it would repeatedly re-open itself during the uninstall, preventing uninstall from working. So I also need a more reliable procedure for uninstalling Connection Client, something that will prevent it from popping open during the uninstall.
Hi, sorry to hear that his happened and thanks for providing all these detail. My first question was going to be, "did the version change as some Bentley applications deliver the CONNECTION Client". The installer should check to ensure that it doesn't install an older version over a newer one.
It may help to review the log files for the CONNECTION Client, can you please provide them? If you file a Service Request and send me the number I can follow-up with the analyst to make sure these are reviewed.
As a side note, we are going to make a change that will stop the CC from relaunching if it is closed. I can understand the frustration with that happening.
Thanks,
Glenn
The version number of Connection Client did not change on the PCs I looked at; stayed at 11.00.02.20.
I will look for log files.
David, are you using the 32-bit or 64-bit version of the CONNECTION Client and WaterCAD? You can find this in the "About" Window in both.

Hi David,
Also, make sure that you are NOT using Connection Client 11.xx on any Windows 7 computers. You have to use Connection Client 10.xx for Windows 7. With Windows 10, use the latest version.
