I am a volunteer mentor for a High School Robotics program (www.bestrobotics.org) I use Microstation at work (AT&T) and have for 20+ years so I'm very familiar with it. Powerdrafting (PD) is an excellent 2D CAD program for the kids to use and for me to teach. Originally PD was simply free to download. Then Bentley tightend it up some but I was able to have each student go through the registration process and get the download going. They keep changing the process.
This year, now that COVID is less out of control, we are back to teaching robotics. I went to set some new students up and my old links and process don't work. I presume they got hit with your new ID system. My connection client still works and still lets me use PD. But for new students, they get the Educator page where it's asking them to provide a copy of their student ID or .edu Email. As Middle and High school (6th - 12th graders), they have neither. Our schools don't issue IDs to High School students.
All the personnel I have worked with at Bentley in the past now have disconnected numbers. I've been trying for several days and I've yet to get a human being at Bentley on the phone. Well, once I got an operator who promptly put be back into the voice prompt system and a dead end.
Is there anyone at Bentley who could give me a call or email and help me get this resolved?
Thanks,Scott email@example.com; firstname.lastname@example.org
The latest CONNECT Edition versions of MicroStation PowerDraft indeed use our Identity Management System for activation purposes. Is the Educators page requesting a "school code," by chance? If so, the high school for which you volunteer should have one if they have a current academic contract with us. As described in the following wiki, this provides access to STUDENTServer where students can download an installer for MicroStation PowerDraft. If students do not have their own email addresses, an administrator from the school can provide a common Bentley login to use for activation purposes once the program is installed.
I do have a school code given to us, hopefully it hasn't changed. It's a long cryptic string. We've had it for 3-4 years, since the last time they changed the DL method.. I'm the lead mentor and have(or had) what I think was the master account. My old instructions were for the students to go to
http://apps.bentley.com/studentserver/Then register. That's the same link that's mentioned in the Wiki.
That link now redirects to the portal and I see no "register" button.
Hi - I have asked that a colleague from our Learn group contact you. If yo don't hear anything soon, please post again and I will follow-up with the person I spoke to.
Today I tried to do a test signup. I registered a new testing Email address. Got the verification Email code, entered it and was logged onto the site (education.bentley.com). I updated the required fields on the user Profile. I went to "Get Software" and chose "Download" under Powerdrafting. In my old process, this is where I'd be prompted to enter the school code. But that's not that happening. I get the roadblock. Instead of being prompted for the School ID, I get a popup window pasted here:
I tried that contact us button about a week ago, never got a reply. All the links on the Wiki now redirect to this webpage, so the path to download is broken.
I am sorry this has been an issue to deal with. Thank you for all the details on the workflow you are doing, that will be helpful for those that are looking into this for you. Again, if you don't hear back in a few days please let me know.
Thanks. Anything you can do to hurry them along would be appreciated. Our competition starts soon and I've got a lot of teaching to do before then. I've tried every avenue I could think of to get to someone who can help. I really, really don't want to have to learn AutoCAD, which I have edu accesss to. Old uStation user, I just dislike AutoCAD. :)
Every day counts.
I have CAD classes scheduled for the weekend. Maybe I need to cancel.
Understood. I have reached out again but I don't think this will get resolved today.
I heard from my colleague that we got this resolved for you on Friday.
