Greetings-
I know that with the advent of the XM products licensing took a big jump forward. It also allowed Bentley to host the licenses for those clients who choose to do so.
My question: what is the best way to host licenses for pre-XM applications? We have a poject we thought was going to be XM and instead we are being asked to use V8. We had planned on having Bentley host our licensing, since we have several remote users. Since we are having to use V8, that may not work. I'd still like to transition to Bentley hosted licensing; can I use a license file for those apps that would point an an IP address on Bentley's server? Or do I have other options? I want to avoid checking out lcienses long-term to users, especially since I doubt we have enough licenses to do it.
Thanks for any suggestions!
Jeff
Jan is 100% correct and in fact we have between 6,500 and 7,300 SELECT Server gateways that connect to the hosted server daily. I've even heard of a few companies that have installed the gateway on every laptop in order to provide a means of using PRE-XM applications on the road and not lose their ability to pool licenses. The Gateway just like any other XM application was designed to work disconnected from its parent SELECT Server for up to 30 days. Making it the perfect road warrior companion.

Great timing guys,
It's A\H here so I don't have access to my usual Bentley Support contact. I have a guy who has set up the Gateway, but needs to run 2004. The activation was successful, but what do I have in the 2004 license file?
Thanks,
