I wonder why updating connection client is so complicated compared to practically every other Windows application? Updating process will not success unless I log out the user's Windows session and log into their computer as an administrator. All other software updates and installations prompt me to use elevated admin user name and password only but Connection Client wants to do it in a hard way. I wonder why and is there a way do do it smarter?
Because Connection client developers work as admin and never had such issues. Developers should develop on old computers so they feel how slow the software has become and optimize it.
We update CC and all Bentley software elevated (run as admin) all the time but we don't use CC to do the work. We remove the existing software with the MSI or programs & features then install new with the MSI. When we do, we always start a powershell elevated (you could use cmd elevated) and start the install from there. It's probably a superstition.

This could be because your IT team has put restrictions to install, uninstall or modify any application without their permission. They might have excluded some applications but not Bentley applications.
I would suggest you to contact your IT expert and make sure they have configurations setup accordingly.
