How do I check in a checked out licence?

Having for the first time recently checked out a licence from SS can someone explain the steps to check the licence back in? I had a look in Help and at the wiki on this site but I couldn't find the steps to do this.

Any help appreciated. TIA.

  • Hi Stuart,

There are two ways to check-in a checked-out license; from the client or from the administrator.
Client: The client machine must have access to SELECTserver to check in a license. Using the License Management Tool, the opening screen (if using XM products) will show an upper and lower panel. Find the application you wish to check in on the lower panel and simply click the "Check In" button. If the application is V8i I or newer, we updated the interface to a tabbed interface. Click on the License Checkout tab and the two panel interface described above will appear.

Administrator: Use this method when a computer is lost, stolen or in an unrecoverable state. From the SELECTserver Administrator, navigate to "Checkedout Licenses" found under License Management. The next screen will show all checked out licenses from your SELECTserver. Find the license you are looking for and click the folder icon heighted below:

Please note the upper right corner of the screen capture, the "Options" link. If you have a lot of checked out licenses, you may use this to query the license you are looking for.

    Hope this helps...

  • Thanks for getting back to me.I will have to use the 'administrator' route as the licences are on laptops with no direct access to our network or SS.

I was expecting the laptop to produce a .xml file that could be submitted/imported into SS. When I checked out the licence SS produced a similar file for importing into the Client laptop.

I've just realised that if I check the licence in using the administrator route then the actual licence on the laptop is still checked out. The end date was set as some time in 2010.

How do I resolve this? TIA.

  • Hi Stuart,

You are correct, by checking in the license via the administrator, the license on the machine is not reconciled. That said, as part of the Trust Licensing design, we are trusting the license is no longer in use after the administrator returns the license to the pool.
