Moving licensing from Select Server to Individual machines

We have 7 users running MicroStation V8 version 08.05.02.35 on WinXP

We have Select Server version 08.05.02.36 on a server for these 7 licenses

We are moving to Win7 one machine at a time since V8 is not supported on Win7

We can no longer install Select Server because of a security risk over the internet, nor can we install and license MicroStation V8i because of an internet security risk.

Is it possible to get individual licenses for each machine as we upgrade to Win7?

  • Blazer,

You can always use a checked out license if the machines will not have internet access.  You can upgrade to the current SELECTserver, using the Bentley Hosted SELECTserver.  The machines will never need to communicate with the hosted SELECTserver with a checked out license.  As long as you can access the webpage for SELECTserver, you can generate the checked out license from there.  The checked out license will be an XML that you can import into the license management tool on the client machines that will not have internet access.  Also, if there are security concerns about the current SELECTserver, please review the technote on SELECTserver security FAQ:
