The Serial Number and Activation Keys are specific to your site. When "moving" the SELECTserver application to a new physical or virtual server the same keys for the initial installation should be used. The installations are not depended of each other and function separately with the same keys. With that in mind they are both fully function SELECTservers and both reporting usage information back to the Bentley back-end server. For a short time period this is an acceptable configuration which will allow the administrator time to redirect all the client machines to the new server location. Seeing that the Site Activation Key has not change you will only need to edit the clients to look towards the new SELECTserver installation on the new server by name.

CLIENT SIDE LICENSE MANAGEMENT TOOL

Once the clients have been redirected the old server can be shutdown or the SELECTserver application can be uninstalled.

**NOTE**

Because of TRUST Licensing there is no need for a backup redundant or “failsafe” SELECTserver application. The server has the ability to function in what we call Disconnected Mode for up to 30 days without a backend connection to Bentley it is very unlikely that any site would experience a network outage of 30 days or more so the process of committing resources to a “failsafe” SELECTserver would not be productive.
