  • Hello,

this issue happens sometimes to SelectServer versions before 08.11.07.111 (for example 08.11.07.35, 08.11.07.88) when MS SQL database is installed on the same machine as SelectServer. MS SQL service takes a long time to start and Bentley SelectServer service needs to talk to it so it gets a timeout and never starts after reboot.

To resolve that you can upgrade SelectServer to the latest version 09.00.00.113, see more information on that here: communities.bentley.com/.../6693.aspx.

A quick solution to avoid SelectServer uprade is described below.

    1. Open regedit on SelectServer machine

    2. Go to path HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Bentley SELECTserver

    3. Add Multi-String 'DependOnService', set its value to: MSSQL$SELECTSERVER
SQLBrowser (in the text box put these two services on separate lines)

    NOTE:
MSSQL$SELECTSERVER is the default name of the service, sometimes it can be
different, you need to check it and fill in the correct one that you have in
your setup (the ones that are highlighted in red color on the attached
screenshots - there are 2 screenshots for different service name examples)

    4. Make sure SQL Browser service is running and is set to startup automatically.

    5. Open the Services GUI console

    6. Open Bentley SELECTserver service and on the Recovery tab change First failure
to 'Restart Service', set the time value at 5 minutes
