Now that I have sent 2 inquiries to the help desk, found and searched the knowledge base, read all the posting rules and figured out how to post...
Can anyone tell me how to proceed with the "SelectServer database setup"? I want to set up a new (replacement) SelectServer, and was hoping to avoid the extra steps of transferring the database. I don't need the history...
I'm getting the impression that since the radio button for "use existing 2008sql express (or similar) button was selected (and could not be changed) during install need to use SQL Manager to create a database BEFORE using the Bentley software? The Bentley tool seems unwilling to cooperate on the third install attempt.
(BTW. rather aggravated that I cannot simply call or email support for help, and that I am referred to the KnowlwedgeBase. It's not like I'll be looking to do this many times in the future and need to learn how. The last time was around 2005 or so... )
Hello,
It seems that an SQL server is already installed on the machine, you can check this by looking at the windows services for any service with a name starting by SQL.
There you should find the instance name needed to configure database access for the new SELECTserver.
The next information needed is how to configure access rights for SELECTserver, and on this point, like any thing related to security, Bentley System have no access to this information.
The most common is to use user "sa" and a password, this should be some how in your archives.
Once you have been able to get those information, click "New Data base", enter any database name that suits you and validate for the tool to configure this new database.
Regarding the contact to SELECTsupport, the email you have sent to SELECTsupport have been lost amongst the huge amount of unwanted email such an open address can recieve.
So far your questions are not confidential and can stay on the forum where they wil benefit from the mixed experience of several colleague and, why not, other users. And the answers should also help other users.
If the information shared become confidential, we will use the Service Request Manager.
Running the installtion multiple times can be "sticky". the installer is reviewing information found in the registry and attempting to decide what the particulare system "needs" I can agree that the process is not bulletproof. As Claude mentioned if you are not getting an option for a process then the installer "believes" the application is already in place. If the options do not fit your desires at the moment you will have to manually configure to meet your needs. That leaves us at this point.
1) If the SQL iisnstance is installed you only need to open the Database Setup Tool and configure the new database. Details are in the link below.
Database Setup Tool Configuration and Explanationhttp://communities.bentley.com/products/licensing/w/licensing__wiki/7018.aspx
2) if you need to manually install a new database details are in the follwing link.

Please place any addition questions or comment here on the forum.

The SQL Server install (or database creation) failed when running the SelectServer software fist time around, likely because there is already a 2008SQL Server running other software on this Win2008server. I cannot get the BentleyDatabase Setup software to see any of the existing databases currently running on the SQL Server. None of those reference Bentley or SelectServer (when viewed through SQL Server Configuration Manager). I do not know how to create a database on the SQL Server, but that would seem like the next logical step.
Maybe.
btw, this:

isn't a valid link for me.
