Hello,
I have run into some apparent product overages within our company over the first quarter of 2014. It appears that is the case with many of the users on this forum. While i don't necessarily agree with the invoicing at our minimal overages, it is what it is, as they say. I have come here to look for help in creating a system where this doesn't ever happen again. My manager is not interested in dealing with quarterly invoices, and i being in the Field from time to time, need to employ some kind of restriction to enforce limits while i am away, and save us from extra costs.
I have looked around at the tools in the SelectSERVER and noticed many restrictions available by IP Address, or Custom Activation Group etc. however was hoping to get some advice on what works best for you, or of any How-To articles on how to set something up. We are a small engineering firm with a total of 10 seats, however we have a few satellite offices across the state and need some way to make sure this doesn't happen again. Thanks very much in advance, and i will report anything i find!
-Jonathan
After reading around a little, i should clarify a few things about our company.
We have a hosted License server, so i think that rules out any windows related restrictions?
We have so few users that i would really like to deploy some kind of system where All users have access to all programs, but will not be allowed into a program if the limit is already reached.

Unfortunately, as Bentley keep reminding us, this is not possible. You only find out the over usage after the event which is obviously too late.
This is a request of ours as well, but from every indication Bentley is not planning on providing admins or companies with any way to regulate this. The whole thing seemed to be marketed as being more transparent for them so that companies could have full use of the entire Bentley offerings, but not letting it being abused. This is a great notion and opportunity and when you download a new product there is much more control over it. However, once that is downloaded for the first time and in regards to existing licenses there is very little control. You don't even have anyway to know how many licenses you own without looking at an invoice.
We formerly hosted our own SelectServer and that would tell us how many licenses had purchased AND the usage. I think Bentley may only beginning to see the backlash in these forums from the frustrations that are beginning with a lack of transparency in BOTH directions.
I had a recent article on my RSS feed regarding a competitor already using this as a negative marketing tool, but that thread seems to be non-existant now for some reason.

I too saw that thread. Can't think why Bentley would want to remove the thread :-)
In 100% agreement with all the posts here.
Linus, I am sure your thread was deleted by the admins. I do have a nice screen shot of it though.
