Would like NOT to use Enable anonymous Access for the BSS folder in IIS
Microsoft tools and utilities are being used for communication. The SELECTserver XM application is displayed by the Microsoft IIS utility with the ASP.Net user, IWAM and IUSR, clients being the backend worker processes. Work is done using anonymous access to communicate with the database. If you by pass the anonymous access then every client that attempts to use the database will in some way try to authenticate. They do not have permission for the database and this causes failures.ADDITIONAL INFOThe only virtual directory that actually needs anonymous access is the WS (Web services) directory for SELECTServer. The Gateway and other services like the Bentley Transmit will need to connect to this anonymously because the service is running as a system account and not as a user. If you are going to run applications like Bentley ProjectWise Application server, Plotting server etc also will be connect to the BSS as anonymous user and will need access to the BSS directory along with the WS directory. In this situation you can provide the server applications credentials for these services to run as but will still require the WS to have anonymous access for the Web Services to work.
