This support solution provides steps for encrypting usage logs sent from a deployed (i.e. in-house) SELECTserver to Bentley.

Background

By default a deployed SELECTserver transmits usage logs to Bentley over the HTTP protocol. While user and machine names are obscured, information about the products used as well as start and stop times are readable if intercepted. As a more secure alternative, SELECTserver provides an option to transmit usage logs to Bentley over the HTTPS protocol which encrypts the communication channel.

Steps to Accomplish

1. Open the SELECTserver administration site.
2. Locate the Administration section on the left sidebar (SELECTserver 08.xx.xx.xxx) or in the navigation bar along the top (SELECTserver 09.xx.xx.xxx).
3. Click or select Server Settings.
4. Locate the SELECTserver Settings block.
5. Tick the checkbox labeled "Use SSL for all communications with Bentley.com".
6. Click the Apply button in the upper right. If the button is disabled, add and remove a space from the Serial Number field first.
