Gateway fails to start because license is not valid

 Product(s):SELECTserver Gateway
 Version(s):N/A
 Environment:N/A
 Area:License Management
 Subarea:N/A

Error or Warning Message

The SELECTserver Gateway service fails to start. When examining the SS-SelectServer.Gateway.exe.log file, the following error appears at the bottom:

License not valid. Expiration date exceeded.

Explanation

The SELECTserver Gateway maintains a local copy of the license file to provide access to pre-XM products even if the connection to the license server is temporarily disrupted. The local copy is valid for 30 days. The Gateway attempts to update the local copy once a day, but if it consistently fails for 30 days, the service will be stopped, and the above error will appear in the log file.

How to Avoid

The following steps may resolve the problem by forcing the SELECTserver Gateway to regenerate the local copy:

  1. Navigate to:
    C:\Program Files\Bentley\SELECTserver
  2. Delete the LicenseConfiguration.xml file located there.
  3. Attempt to start the Bentley SELECTserver Gateway service.
