    Managing Default Access setting

Default Access settings allow organization administrators to configure access to entitlements across all products for a particular entitlement country. That default setting can then be overridden at the product level or by creating exceptions for a group or user.

Please note, that changing this setting to Access Denied will deny access to all products for every user in that entitlement country unless there are specific overrides in place to allow access for targeted products or users. To limit any user downtime, it is recommended that those overrides be in place before the Default Access setting is switched to Access Denied. A warning in Applications and Services will be displayed if all product use has been denied without any overrides.

"Default access to Bentley products has been denied without any configured overrides at the product level. To ensure users have access to the products they need, please configure access overrides for their required products".

Changing the Default Access setting will not affect any overrides on the product, group or user level that are already in place.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How do I change the Default Access setting?

To change the default access setting, go to Entitlement Management and drill into the tile under "Your Subscription Type" (which may SELECT, Open Access, ELS, e365, etc.).

Choose the country you are managing from the top menu and to the right side of the screen you will see the Default Access icon informing you of the current setting.  Click on the icon to change the setting.

Drill into the Default Access Icon on the upper right part of the page

On the Default Access Settings page, choose Change Access.

Click on the Yes button at the bottom of the dialog to confirm the change.

When you return to the Your Application Portfolio screen, you will see that the Default Access icon has changed.  Those products that are participating in the Default Access setting (indicated by ) will follow that change in access.

How do I create or remove the override of the Default Access setting for a specific product?

From the "Your Application Portfolio" page, click the General Access link for the product you want to change.

In the product’s General Access page, click the drop-down on the Change Access button.

To create an override, or change the current override value, choose Allow or Deny, depending on the which behavior you require.

To remove an override, choose Country Default to restore the setting back to the current default setting.

How do I tell which products have an override?

In the "Your Application Portfolio" screen, you will see that each product’s General Access link has an icon next to it.

    Icon Meaning
The default setting for all products in the chosen country is Access Allowed.
The default setting for all products in the chosen country is Access Denied.

The product in this row follows the current default setting.

The product in this row overrides the current default setting to allow access.

The product in this row overrides the current default setting to restrict access.

    NOTE:

These settings apply only to application versions that are licensed through CONNECT Licensing - according to the warning message displayed on the page. If General Access is configured to "Deny", legacy versions, like V8i, will be denied access to the license even if the Exceptions are configured to grant access.
