    Collecting Event Viewer logs

Product(s): CONNECTION Client and Bentley Licensing Service
      Area: Licensing - Technical

The steps below gather pertinent logs from the Applications log in Event Viewer.

    Background

When components such as CONNECTION Client and the Bentley Licensing Service crash before any useful diagnostic data can be written to the logs, the Event Viewer included with Windows may provide a good starting point. Please use the following steps.

    Steps to Accomplish

    1. Right-click on the Windows Start menu, and select Event Viewer from the contextual menu.

    2. In the Event Viewer window that appears, expand Windows Logs, and select Applications.
    3. Note any error listings with a Source value of .NET Runtime as shown below.
    4. Select such listings, and examine the Application value under the General tab as highlighted below.

    5. If any listings are for Bentley.Connect.Client.exe or Bentley.Licensing.Service.exe, right-click on them, and select "Save Selected Events" from the contextual menu.

    6. Save and send the resulting EVTX file for further analysis.
