Admin Check In and Out Instructions for XM and Higher [TN]

      Product: SELECTserver
      Version: XM and higher
      Environment: N\A
      Area: Asset Administration
      Subarea: N\A

    Overview

As a SELECT user, you may decide to check out a license if the client machine will have limited or no internet/network connection.

Checking out a license is generally managed from the client computer, for instructions, please see Client Check In and Out Instructions for XM and Higher.

If there is a problem with the client check out, or the computer cannot connect to the server even one time, a Site Administrator or Licens Manager can check out a license from the SELECTserver Administration Site.

To check out a license, open the SELECTserver administration site. Most users license their products from Bentley's online license server known as Bentley CONNECT SELECTservices (i.e. the "hosted" server or SELECTserver Online). The administration site for this server can be accessed here.

For users with an in-house SELECTserver, known as a deployed SELECTserver, access it by entering the following URL in a browser, replacing "servername" with the name of server where SELECTserver is installed:

    http://servername/bss/admin

    Check Out

From the Navigation Bar, go to License Management. Depending on the version of SELECTserver, click on either "License Checkout" or "Checkout A License."

Select the desired application from the products listed and click the Next button.  If there are no products listed, they may need to be made available for checkout under "Checkout Restrictions."

    Enter the necessary information:

    • Computer Name
    • User’s Name
    • User’s Email Address
    • Expiration Date
    • Version Number

Note: It is important to enter the correct version number of the product being checked out.

Some versions of the License Management Tool require that you enter 3 digits for each field of the version number instead of 2. If you cannot proceed to the next step of the product activation, try adding a leading zero to the values in the version boxes (for instance, 08 becomes 008).

The version number can be found by opening the product, clicking the Help menu and selecting "About <Product>".

    Click Ok.

Next, click Download License to save the license to the machine or Click Email License to send the license file attached to an Email.

    Check In

The license must be checked back in from the License Management Tool on the Client Machine.  However, with products such as RAM, STAAD, & AutoPIPE, there may be a need to Check Licenses In from the Admin Page.  For more details,  see Viewing And Checking In Licenses Using The Site Administration Page.
