Purpose
SES licensing can be used with both desktop and server applications. When SES is used with desktop applications, SES obtains the current user identity from the CONNECTION Client to facilitate license requests.
Most server applications run on unattended server computers where it is unlikely to have an interactive logged-in user.
Background
To facilitate SES licensing of server applications run on unattended server computers, these products have additional required steps during installation to assist with SES licensing.
Server-based licensing
Server products are entitled through the mechanism of access keys which are generated by an administrator for use on a machine. Access keys link entitlement requests and usage from that machine to the organization without the need for a user to be signed in to CONNECTION Client at the time of product usage.
Access keys can be generated through the Activation Wizard which will generally be executed at the end of the server product's installer. For silent installs, the access key can be generated on the Entitlement Management site and inserted in the install script.
