What options are available to allow the external (WAN) user to access a Locally Deployed SELECTserve

Q: What options are available to allow the external (WAN) user to access a Locally Deployed SELECTserver?

A:  If we are talking about a Locally Deployed SELECTServer, then the external users can get access to such a SelectServer by using a VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection. Using a VPN is a way to access the LAN (Local Area Network) of a company using WAN (Wide Area Network) and that should be setup by the IT of the company. The only and vital requirement is that the HTTP traffic from user's PC to the internal SelectServer is open when connected over VPN.

If this is not possible for your organization and the Locally Deployed SELECTserver is only accessible on the LAN (an intranet site), then it will not allow your users to access via WAN, The best solution would be to move the assets to SELECTserver Online (a Bentley Hosted Server).

This would allow both internal and external users access to the organization's available license(s) via a simple, yet secure, connection to the web.

For further details on moving your assets to SELECTserver Online contact either your Account Manager or a Bentley Product Activation Specialist.
