Bentley Connection Client

Question

Whenever I start my computer, I see the Bentley Connection Client... 
 
 It always appears, whether or not I intend to use MicroStation CONNECT. 
 No one has yet explained what that dialog does. When I sign-in, nothing happens. If I don't sign-in, nothing happens. When I dismiss the dialog it hovers around as a background Windows task, hogging 74MByte of memory. 
 It's an intrusive dialog with no apparent purpose. It's annoying. What would happen if I were to uninstall that Bentley client?

We've been using a number of the connect editions of Bentley software, and disallowed from connecting to the cloud. We've simply uninstalled the connection client after installing the product with no indication of degradation of the software.

You are not required to sign-in. However, if you chose not to sign-in you will not have access to Bentley Cloud Services as well as the Cloud-based functionality embedded in CONNECT Edition products.

One item of note, if you decide to uninstall this software you would also not have access to the regular software updates via the Cloud Services. I would highly recommend reinstalling this as these updates could be quite important.
