GenerativeComponents 103: Spaces and Grids

This series of videos will introduce students to the integration between GenerativeComponent's Space node and OpenBuildings Designer’s Space planning tools.

Students will learn how to use GenerativeComponents to create intelligent spaces associated with the mass model. This type of space model can give immediate feedback on the programmatic effect of each and every change to the design. Once a space layout is defined, it can be used to guide the structural grid.

1: Creating Guest room Modules

In this video Mary Chib will generate a series of polygons from a point grid in order to establish the guestroom module.

2: Creating Spaces from a 3 Dimensional Grid

In this video you will learn how to modify the point grid used for the single floor guestroom layout so that it becomes a 3-dimensional point grid generating modules for the entire building. The polygons will then be used to generate intelligent spaces in OpenBuildings Designer.

3: Tracking the Space Data

In this video you will see how to use OpenBuildings Designer's Schedule dialog to view information about the Spaces placed using GenerativeComponents.

Currently, the curve or arc of the building form is controlled by three points, this allows the designer to modify the design in a very intuitive way. However, with some simple changes to the script a radius and sweep angle can be added allowing for more rational geometry.

4: Creating Rational Geometry

In this video Mary Chib will show how to modify the model to create more rational geometry.
