Create Existing Ground Profile with a variable Offset from Chain

I would like to use the existing ground profile tool to cut an existing ground for a ditch bottom. The ditch bottom is a variable offset from my CL chain, so I cannot just pick a standard offset.

Is there any way to do this? I want the profile to be able to be plotted on the sheets with my roadway and proposed ditch, so it would need to be along the same CL chain.

This would also apply to existing and proposed utilities as well.

Thanks

  • Create your ditch profile in the profile view for your CL and project that profile to the horizontal element representing your ditch bottom.

  • I have created my proposed ditch profile based on my CL. What I would like is for my existing ditch profile to also be based up on the CL, so they can both be plotted and compared in the same sheet. I have a chain I created for the CL of the existing ditch. I want to use that as my offset from the Chain for creating an existing profile instead of a single number. Is this even possible?

Also, this is an older project, so it is SS2. And forgive me for basically just rephrasing the question. I didn't quite understand what you were getting at Michael.

  • In both SS2 legacy tools and the new SS3 tools, there is a project profile tool to do what you need.

Save the existing ground profile for you ditch, ditch_ep, then project it on to the CL profile.

  • Thanks Vern, I will check it out

  • Using this method gets me a "Command not defined for this application" message in SS3.
