Extending Ground line

Question

In the old geopak when doing cross sections and you did not enough DTM there was a way to extend the ground line. Can it be done in SS4?

In SS4 the cross sections are a created from the 3D model. If the existing terrain line is not wide enough for an alignment at a given station, then the terrain model will need more data. Extending the terrain line is not an option. 
One suggestion/idea would be to create a terrain from triangle elements along the edge in the area. This would be fabricated data however.
